Kinmana Organic Heritage chickens grow slowly, and in their natural environment, and reach a variety of differing shapes, sizes, and skin colouring. All chickens are processed after 13-16 weeks fully pastured life, regardless of size.This product is supplied frozen, and carton contents have been hand packed by the farmers on their family farm, ready for your freezer. Family packs are available just once a year, with a weight value of between 10-13kgs. Each carton contains an average 2-3kg each of the following portions, packed into 500g lots (average weights, some may be slightly smaller or larger):
drumsticks – great for roasting, curries, and toddler or picnic food. Kinmana Sommerlad drumsticks are LARGE 🙂
wings – great for finger food and for Asian braises, picnics etc
boneless thigh portions (skin on) – great for stir-fries, curries, grills, barbecues, so versatile!
breasts (skin on)
boned rolled chicken roasts (each weighing between 600g- 900g average). This are fabulous as is, or stuff them and re-roll them for a delightful dinner; or unroll and open them flat, marinade and pop them on the BBQ. Delicious!
HOW TO ORDER: Minimum quantity is 1 x carton. Pay the deposit amount to secure your order, and we will contact you to confirm the final weight and outstanding amount payable before your carton is delivered/collected. Amount below refers to cartons (‘1’ = 1 x carton) and is sold by final weight. Marylands, whole chickens and other cuts are available in alternate boxes, here.
Where a deposit is required, the balance of your account is subject to any final weights. Payment of all balances must be made prior to collection or delivery, and can be made via bank transfer or credit card (a 2.5% credit surcharge applies), and totals including delivery will be issued via invoice. Until November 2017 the Sommerlad family personally managed, bred, and developed their exclusive heritage table poultry for the Australian market. Diverse pedigree strains, specifically bred to thrive in free-range pasture rearing environments, mean they are well suited to Australian climatic conditions. Sommerlad chickens are, by nature, active foragers. They boast long, strong legs, colourful plumage and walk tall and proud due to pasture grazing and a natural diet. Unlike commercial strains, Sommerlad birds are naturally slow grown for 10-12 weeks before processing.
Michael Sommerlad now consults to each of the Sommerlad authorised farmers, providing assistance, guidance and support as this major milestone continues gather traction in our food system. At a time when nearly all chicken farmed and eaten in our country comes from the same imported genetic stock, Sommerlad chicken represents a quiet revolution in Australian chicken farming.
