Giant Muscovy ducks and drakes are primarily meat eaters, and this difference is noted in their exceptionally rich, moist, deeply coloured flesh. They are a large land bird, growing to a much greater size than their pond loving cousins. Muscovies are related to the goose family.  

Muscovy meat is 98% or greater fat free. Being lean, meat from the Muscovy duck is not greasy like other ducks. Although Muscovies have very little fat compared to other breeds you will still get enough precious home-grown duck fat to fill a small jar. 

Make your order, pay your deposit, and we’ll invoice you the balance of $25.99 per kilo depending on the carton size of your choice (save on the RRP of 35.50kg). Ducks and drakes are supplied frozen, fresh can be ordered in advance. Birds come with heads and feet intact and with all offal.

Collection & Delivery

Where a deposit is required, the balance of your account is subject to any final weights.  Payment of all balances must be made prior to collection or delivery, and can be made via bank transfer or credit card (a 2.5% credit surcharge applies), and totals including delivery will be issued via invoice. BRISBANE COLLECTION Orders may be collected from ACTC cold stores, Canberra Road, Hemmant, Brisbane (unless specified otherwise). Appointments for pick up must be made 24 hrs in advance within 4am-2pm Mon-Thurs, 4am-1pm Fri and will be available within 24 hours after payment of your final receipt.

LOCAL QLD DELIVERY We deliver throughout Brisbane, Gold and Sunshine Coasts, and the Toowoomba regions by sub-contracted refrigerated courier services. Please get in touch if you need delivery outside these areas. Delivery fee is set by the refrigerated courier and ranges from $35.00 (Brisbane and suburban) - $65.00 (Coastal and Ranges). All orders are packed in sealed boxes. Your produce will remain fresh/frozen inside the courier service vehicle. Couriers can not leave fresh or frozen meat unattended, so please ensure someone will be available to receive. REGIONAL QLD DELIVERY Delivery is available to most locations throughout South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.   • Virgin Freight: Flights to major airports listed here on an 'airport to airport' basis. Please determine you live within range prior to ordering. Fees will also apply for delivery to the Brisbane airport at a rate of $45.00 per drop.  Air freight delivery fees are set by the airline, and a quote can be obtained by emailing us.

Product Details

duck hand sourcedFree ranging Giant Muscovies begin life ranging through Inverell’s wheat belt before reaching maturity, when they are moved to Llangothlin for their finishing weeks before processing. No hormones, antibiotics or veterinary drugs administered, and no fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides used on the grazing land.

These ducks spend their days on the Mackenzie family farm where they free range and enjoy paddocks, ponds and natural grasses.  Their diet consists of natural pasture, grasses and naturally occurring proteins. 

Muscovy ducks are the only domesticated duck which is not descended from the mallard. The scientific name, Cairina moschata, means the “musky one from Cairo”. Muscovies are also known as an Indian Duck, the Libyan Duck and, in a culinary context, the Barbary Duck.  Muscovies do not quack. Instead, the males make a “hissing” sound while the females make a sound known as a “pip.” This “pip” is a very exotic sounding call, somewhat similar to a flute quickly alternating between the notes F and G.

The Muscovy Diet
‘Pasture raising’ Muscovies does not mean a diet of grasses, although greenery does make up a portion of their diet. Muscovies love to eat flies, maggots, mosquitos, mosquito larva, slugs, bugs of all sorts, black widow spiders, the brown fiddleback spider and any thing that creeps and crawls. They will search in, under, around and through places to find these tasty morsels, and will eat ants and destroy ant dens. Muscovy ducks love roaches and eat them like candy.
