Our Grassland Sommerlad Heritage chickens are the original Australian heritage chicken genetics — bred, raised, and processed entirely on the Kiss family’s farm, Meramie, in Wellington, NSW. Slow-grown in open grassy woodlands, they enjoy a natural 14–16 week life cycle that develops strong bone, muscle, and flavour. Outdoor-reared and chemical-free, they offer the rich taste and character of chicken as it once was.

What's in the box?

Each box contains everything you need for a show-stopping roast chicken dinner — just add veg. We’ve chosen extra-large Sommerlad heritage chickens for the centrepiece: birds with rich flavour, generous meat, and that old-fashioned roasted-chook appeal. Feed a crowd or stretch one meal across several. Each carton averages 7–8kg of goodness and offers unbeatable value.

While each box contains slightly different weights (listed in the product options below), every carton is packed with:

• One whole dressed Sommerlad Heritage Chicken

Grown slowly on chemical-free pasture at Grassland Poultry. These birds are hand-processed and snap-frozen at their peak — rich in flavour and naturally high in nutrients. Store in your freezer for up to 12 months.

• 500g pack of gizzards

Pan-roast with the bird for next-level gravy drippings, or simmer gently with your bones for stock depth.

• 1kg pack of liver

Perfect for rich homemade pâté, adding flavour to gravies, or freezing in portions for later use.

• 1kg pack of chicken feet

The ultimate collagen boost. Simmer into a rich broth or freeze for later to combine with your leftover bones. A few feet go a long way!

• 500g jar of rendered schmaltz (chicken fat)

Pure, clean, and chemical-free — nothing added, nothing removed. Schmaltz is your secret weapon for the crispiest roast potatoes, golden veggies, or as a deeply savoury cooking fat. Lasts almost indefinitely in the fridge if kept clean.

• 1L pouch of light chicken broth

Clean, additive-free broth made on-farm. Not a heavy bone stock — this is light and versatile, perfect for sipping, soups, or gravy.

Delivery Details

Each carton is dispatched from our Sydney warehouse to the address supplied with your order. Carton weights listed are indicative; your invoice will reflect the true weight of the carton.

Product is kept in a frozen chain from our depot to your nearest cold store. However, the courier who delivers your cartons may use a refrigerated vehicle transported at 0–1°C, which means you might (occasionally) notice some softening around the edges.
